Major Rookie Tier 1 Eagles Silver Medalists in Hamilton AAA tournament
The Major Rookie Eagles traveled to Hamilton last weekend for the West Mountain AAA tournament which hosts 16 of the best 9U teams in Ontario including five of the top six teams from last years OBA AAA championships.
Game 1 vs. Leaside AAA – The boys started slow finding themselves down 10-0 after the second inning. Despite the rough start the team fought their way back coming up just short in a 13-9 final.
Game 2 vs Hamilton AAA – The team really hit their stride defensively holding a tough Hamilton team to 2 runs in a 13-2 five inning mercy.
Game 3 vs Niagara Falls AA – The team continued from their morning win with a 19-0 four inning mercy of Niagara Falls in an error free game prompting the Niagara coach to tell us he’d never seen a team play like that before.
Game 4 vs. Stouffville – Another strong game across the board led to a 17-2 five inning mercy with strong hitting and defensive performances all over the field.
Game 5 vs. Leaside AAA – The AAA semi-final was a rematch against the #2 seeded Leaside team. The boys once again started slow and trailed by a score of 13-2 in the bottom of the fourth. Most games would be over at this age but the kids gradually pecked away at the Leaside lead while playing shutdown defense. One of the best parts of this game was that while it was happening the games from the other 5 diamonds all were finishing up and players and families from multiple teams started to gather around including our league competition from Oakville, Burlington and Mississauga. With the help of our massive cheering section the team took their game to another level coming back to beat Leaside 15-13.
Game 6 vs. Oakville AAA – The AAA final was against a familiar foe in Oakville. The kids once again started slow falling behind 6-0 after half an inning against arguably the top team in Ontario. They fought and clawed their way back into it eventually falling just short in an 11-8 loss.
It was a fantastic weekend of baseball by all the players as they continued their strong start to the season!
