So, just a few fun facts regarding our 7U Season.
We'll aim to meet at 5:45pm for a 15-minute warm up. We'll start with a practice session at 6pm for 30 minutes . . . parents you are encouraged to participate in the practice - so bring your glove too! Followed by a 75-minute game starting at 6:30pm. Each game will be approximately 2-3 innings in length. No new innings will commence after 7:30pm. At 8pm the game ends whether its still in play or not - we all need to get home and into bed!
7U level is coach thrown pitches with a soft "squishy" ball to the players at bat. We will be using these soft balls for the duration of the season as to not intimidate the young players or make them fearful of the hard balls they will be introduced to in the older divisions. Towards the end of this Season (per coaches' discretion) we may have a little fun with the hard balls just as an introduction. Every child on the team will get to bat each inning (it is not three outs and then rotate teams) everyone will have a turn each time the team is up to bat. The league would like coaches to underhand throw the ball X5 per child (if necessary) and if no hit is made we'll bring in the batting tee for the 6th swing. It's to the coaches discretion to use the batting tee for the first game so that there's familiarity for the kids that are joining squirts straight from T-Ball last Season.
Defensively: each child will play a new position each inning to encourage a fun rotation and trial of each position. We will be teaching the rules of the game and "outs" should be properly called for example: he/she should not remain at a base if he/she was put out by a defensive play.
Your child needs to wear the full uniform that you have been provided by your coach at each game. Your child is also required to have a glove (leather is recommended), running shoes or plastic bottom cleats (no metal ones), protection via jock/jill and a hard batting helmet with ear covers and a functioning chinstrap.
Our goal of the Halton Hills Minor Baseball Association (HHMBA) is for each player to have an enjoyable season, while
enhancing their development, have fun, increase their physical fitness level and engage in new friendships through the sport of baseball.
The 7U division is a developmental league, where the emphasis is on FUN, ACTION and POSITIVE ATMOSPHERE, where players are gaining the necessary skills to take part in the older ranks of the HHMBA and the adult game of baseball.
Let's play BALL!
Most importantly: All coaches are volunteers. At this age, many hands are needed. We encourage parents (or older siblings) to help on the field if they can.
