2024 Travel Teams Tryouts

The HHMBA is pleased to announce that we have opened the registration page for our 2024 travel teams tryouts. As we did last year we need all families to pre-register for the tryouts to ensure that all necessary waivers are completed prior to coming the diamond. Your registration fee includes a tryout shirt which will be given to your player at the first tryout.

To register please navigate to http://haltonhillsbaseball.rampregistrations.com/ and register for the following:

Season: 2024 Tryouts

Division: Junior or Senior

Packages: 8U - 18U (Depending on your players age)

The cost is $20 for this registration.

If you are a returning player from last year please use the same account that you used to register for the 2023 season. If you are a new player please see instructions on our registration system here - https://cloud.rampinteractive.com/haltonhillsbaseball/files/Documents/HHMBA%20Registration%20Instructions.pdf.

--------------------------------------------------

We are opening up tryout registration earlier than we did last year so that we can ensure we have the right number and right level of teams selected. If you are planning to attend please register as soon as possible as this will  impact our coaching decisions for 2024.

Players should ensure that they bring their own equipment, including their own helmet, glove and water bottle. Tryout shirts will be distributed again this year and your athlete should ensure they bring this shirt with them to every tryout.

Attached to this post is our full tryout guideline. We strongly suggest that anyone new to Halton Hills or new to travel baseball read it thoroughly. Many questions are answered within this guide however if anything is unclear please contact us and we can help guide you.

Questions related to import (non Halton Hills residents) can be found in this document as well as our release process.

In the 2023 season we made one significant change to our tryout guidelines and it will still apply in 2024

  • Any player who played the prior season in COBA select or House League may choose to start their tryout experience at the second round of tryouts if they wish. This is not required but is an option available to the player. We would ask you to inform the Team 1 coach of this decision in writing prior to the start of the first tryout so that they can plan their practice accordingly. Any player indicating this choice would be marked as “released to next tryout” by the Team 1 coach.

Tryouts will start on Sept 6th and will be completed by the end of September. We are not planning to conduct tryouts on Saturday, September 16th to avoid conflict with the amazing work our local service clubs do with the Head for the Hills fundraising event.

The tryout schedule can be seen here - 2024 Tryout Schedule - v8 - Sept 18, 2023

When you view the tryout schedule this year you will notice a few things that look a little different.

You will notice that we are referring to the first team at every age group as "Team 1". In prior years we referred to these teams as Tier 1 however this wasn't always reflective of where the team would classify with COBA so going forward we will be referring to our teams as "Eagles Team 1", "Eagles Team 2" etc. The coach of the Team 1 team will work with the appropriate rep direct to determine the proper classification of this team with COBA.

Secondly, based on current and anticipated tryout registration numbers we are not planning to have a 2nd team for each single year age group. Instead our 2nd team will be a combination of multiple age groups. In previous years we would refer to these teams as "10U/11U COBA Select" or "12U/13U COBA Select" however this year they will be known as 11U Eagles Team 2 and 13U Eagles Team 2. There are several reasons we have decided to do this and we realize it will create a bit of confusion in the first year but long term we feel that it is the right approach and better reflects how we want our travel teams to be branded. Once the tryouts are complete and the coach of this team will work together with the appropriate rep direct to determine the proper classification of this team with COBA. In most cases though "Team 2" will enter into COBA in the "COBA Select" loop. At some ages (9U and 18U) there is no COBA Select loop so these teams will likely classify into the Tier 2 loop at that age group.

F.A.Q.

Question - Can you clarify the guideline regarding attending Team 1 tryouts if my player was on a COBA Select or house league team last year? Am I opting out of the entire Team 1 tryout or just the "first one"?

Answer -  Yes, if you decide to opt you are opting out of being considered for the Team 1 team entirely, not just the first of three tryouts.

Question - My child is born in the year 2012 which team/age/level are they trying out for?

Answer - Your player as a 2012 born player would be trying out at the 12U age group (for players born in 2012). If they were to be unsuccessful at the Team team they would move to the next possible team which would be the 13 Team 2 team where they would be combined with players born in 2011.

If your player is not successful in making Team 2 they would register for House League in 2024 and could potentially be an AP (Affiliate Player) for a travel team.
